Kaneharu
A specialty eel restaurant serving crispy-skinned, fluffy eel with a secret sauce.
Kaneharu is a specialty eel restaurant located in Yoshihara, Haruno-cho, Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture. For more than 24 years since its founding, it has continued to use and add to a secret sauce passed down from the previous generation. Its time-honored flavor has won the hearts of many people.
Its motto is “freshly prepared, freshly grilled.” Each dish is cooked to order and carefully grilled over about 30 minutes.
The eel is crisp and fragrant on the outside, while the inside stays plump and tender. Another highlight is its commitment to ingredients, using only high-quality domestic Japanese eel. For kabayaki dishes such as unaju and eel rice bowls, the secret sauce is the key to the flavor. At Kaneharu, the recommended way to enjoy it is with stem wasabi, which pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the sauce and the rich fat of the eel. In contrast, shirayaki is served simply with wasabi, salt, and pepper. They also offer the sake “Tosatsuru,” so you can enjoy your meal with local sake.
The restaurant has a spacious and relaxing atmosphere. It has Approx. 36 seats in total, with both table seating and tatami seating available. The restaurant is busy every day with both locals and tourists. Guests are seated in order of numbered tickets, so it’s best to visit with extra time to spare.
