Niginohama Beach connects Keya no Oto, the largest basalt sea cave in Japan and one of Itoshima’s most iconic scenic spots, with Nokita Beach. Its sandy shore and pine grove stretch for Approx. 6 km, creating a dramatic coastline that has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best White Sand and Green Pine Shores.

The view of white waves crashing onto the bow-shaped beach is spectacular. In summer, the sunset sinking into the Genkai Sea is also beautiful, and many visitors park at one of several parking areas and enjoy a stroll. It is also well known as a surfing spot, with waves ranging from gentle ones for beginners to big waves for advanced surfers depending on the season and weather, attracting many surfers throughout the year.

Shima Sunset Road, which runs along the coastline, is dotted with restaurants and cafes and is also popular as a scenic driving route.

It’s a very natural, quiet beach with hardly any tourist facilities, and there usually aren’t many people.

The sand is mixed with small rocks, so it can feel a little rough underfoot, but the water is very clear, and it’s really relaxing to just watch the waves.

The view is quite beautiful on a nice day, and the sunset is lovely too. It’s a good fit for anyone who wants to get away from the crowds and simply stare at the ocean for a while. This is definitely not a busy, lively beach.
