Arashiyama-Takao Parkway

This scenic driveway winds through the beautiful mountains of western Kyoto, stretching 10.7 km from its starting point in Arashiyama to its endpoint in Takao.

In spring, cherry blossoms and mitsubatsutsuji azaleas add vivid color, while in summer, lush green trees create cool shade along the route. In fall, the entire area transforms into a famous spot for autumn foliage. Drive through a tunnel of red, yellow, and orange leaves and enjoy a refined seasonal road trip.

Several observation decks are also scattered along the route, including Hozukyo Observation Deck, where you can look down on Hozugawa River boat rides, and Shobugaoka Observation Deck, where you can ring the Bell of Happiness—both ideal stops for a break.

A wide variety of leisure options is also available for a full day of fun, including the Barbecue Corner, where you can enjoy clear mountain air and an open, spacious setting; Ogurayama Cafe, a relaxing spot with stunning views of Hozukyo Gorge; and Arashiyama Fishing Area, a managed fishing area where both lure and fly fishing are available.
