NIPPONIA HOTEL Ozu Castle Town
A dispersed hotel where guests stay in historic castle town buildings and experience the town as a whole.
Ozu Castle Town in Ehime Prefecture retains the atmosphere of a historic castle town, with a wooden castle keep rising above it. This dispersed hotel transforms the entire town into a hotel, allowing guests to stay in several of the area's surviving historic buildings.
Former residences and storehouses of wealthy merchants, traditional restaurants, and other buildings dating from the Edo period to the Showa era have been converted into upscale accommodations without compromising their original character. The distinctive guest rooms include a nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property that was home to a descendant of the lord of the Ozu Domain during the Taisho era, as well as a room overlooking the keep of Ozu Castle that evokes the feeling of being a feudal lord. An exclusive lounge for overnight guests is another highlight. The restaurant serves a locally sourced menu featuring fresh meat, seafood, and vegetables from the region, prepared using French techniques. The cuisine offers a superb taste of Ozu through all five senses and pairs perfectly with Tobe ware, a traditional craft for which Ehime is renowned.
Cafés and shops selling traditional crafts and household goods are scattered throughout the town. A wide range of activities offers deeper insight into the town's history, culture, and natural surroundings, including guided tours and canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding experiences from early summer through fall.
