Auberge Homachi Mikuniminato

A decentralized hotel offering an immersive stay in a historic port town.

Last update :
Supervised by :  Actibase Fukui Co., Ltd.

A decentralized auberge that blends into the historic streets of Mikuniminato in Sakai, Fukui Prefecture. Traditional townhouses scattered throughout Mikuniminato, which flourished as a port of call for Kitamaebune merchant ships from the Edo to Meiji periods, have been renovated to offer a new style of stay in which the entire town becomes the hotel. Opened in 2024, the property has one reception building and nine guest accommodation buildings with a total of 16 rooms.

The guest rooms are inspired by traditional architecture, including the kagura-style townhouses that symbolize Mikuniminato. Shakudani stone quarried near Mount Asuwa in Fukui City and timber from Fukui Prefecture were used to transform the buildings into comfortable spaces while preserving their historic beams and pillars.

Meals are served at the Tateru Yoshino Mikuniminato restaurant. Supervised by renowned French chef Tateru Yoshino, its course meals make full use of Fukui specialties such as Echizen crab, sweet shrimp, and Wakasa beef. The exceptional cuisine is one of the auberge's main attractions.

There is also a wide range of activities, including guided walks with local guides and experiences centered on Mikuni's traditional culture. Through the culture of this historic port town and interactions with its people, guests can gain a deeper appreciation of Mikuniminato.
