Tokushima Prefectural Museum

Located in Tokushima Bunka-no-Mori Park, this comprehensive museum offers an overview of Tokushima's nature, history, and culture. It hosts both permanent and special exhibitions. The permanent exhibition, themed “Discover Tokushima: Stories of Life and Time,” consists of the Tokushima Section, which showcases the prefecture through extensive materials and video content, and the Earth Section, which explores the history of life from the formation of Earth to the present day as well as biodiversity.

The Tokushima Section covers a wide range of themes, including the Tokushima Dinosaur Collection, which displays dinosaur and other fossils excavated from Early Cretaceous strata. Visitors can learn about the region from various perspectives through exhibits such as Prehistoric and Ancient Tokushima, tracing its development from around 20,000 years ago to approximately the 11th century, and Tokushima's Nature and Daily Life, which explores the natural environments of the mountains, rivers, and sea and the lives of local people. Other highlights include the Natural History Collection, featuring zoological, botanical, and geological materials by theme; the History and Culture Collection, displaying archaeological, historical, folk, fine art, and craft materials; and the Community Collection, presenting the results of research conducted with residents of the prefecture.

In addition to an audio guide, the museum offers Yusan Navi, a dedicated app featuring AR and VR content that brings the exhibits to life. From Tokushima's origins to its present-day natural environment and ways of life, the museum offers a broad overview of what defines the prefecture.
