Starbucks Coffee Ise Naiku-mae
A wooden store that blends into the cobblestone streetscape along the approach to Ise Jingu.
This Starbucks Regional Landmark Store is located in Oharai-machi, a historic district extending along the Isuzu River from Uji Bridge. Opened in 2021, the store was designed to blend into the streetscape, known for its roughly 800-meter-long cobblestone street.
The store occupies a two-story wooden building incorporating design elements reminiscent of an Edo-period (1603–1868) townscape. The first-floor counter was inspired by shops of the era, while the second floor consists of three spaces based on the theme of “coffee aromas and the journey of coffee.” Thoughtful details can be found throughout, including tables made from Mie Prefecture timber, dramatic roof trusses, and spaces illuminated by natural light from skylights.
The store is a convenient place to take a break before or after visiting Ise Jingu. From Room Three on the second floor, visitors can look out over the picturesque cobblestone street and the people passing by. There are many details to discover, including subtly embellished noren curtains and ornamental onigawara roof tiles. It is an inviting stop between shrine visits and a destination in its own right while exploring the historic district.
