All Reviews of Takahata Fudoson Kongoji Temple

Takahata Fudoson is right next to Takahatafudo Station in Tama, Tokyo. It only takes a few minutes on foot after you get off the train, so it’s very convenient to reach. It’s about 30 minutes from Shinjuku on the Keio Line, not far at all, and perfect for a half-day trip.

The hydrangea festival in June is gorgeous! So many flowers, I couldn't stop taking photos.

This is the temple where Hijikata Toshizo from the Shinsengumi is buried, and you can see hydrangeas here in early summer.

There aren't many tourists, so it's nice and quiet for a stroll inside the temple.

It seems like this shrine is known for traffic safety blessings.

Also, you have to try the dango from the shops along the approach! 🍡

What moved me most during my visit was how sincere and respectful everyone was, from the monks to the worshippers. The temple's architecture and gardens also left a strong impression on me.

I wanted to see the hydrangeas, but they bloomed too early this year so I missed them...

But I did get a traffic safety charm, so it was still pretty good!

Not crowded, nice atmosphere—definitely recommend!

Takahata Fudoson is a popular spot for New Year's visits in Japan. I went with friends this year. It was a bit cold, but the weather was clear. There were crowds of people coming to pray, and food stalls lined up one after another. You can really feel the festive New Year's atmosphere in Japan.

Take the Keio Line to Takahatafudo Station, and it's just a 3-minute walk from there. Hino City is also the birthplace of Toshizo Hijikata. Compared to Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, there aren't as many tourists here.

The temple is really spacious and has such a peaceful vibe. There are also flowers and plants to enjoy—it's awesome!
