Atami Plum Garden has nearly 60 varieties and more than 470 plum trees. Each tree has a sign showing its variety. The blooming season runs from January through March, and if you time it right, you can enjoy them together with the Atami cherry blossoms.

There are walking paths and five bridges set along the valley stream. During the Plum Festival, there are food stalls and performances, but since the garden is so spacious, it still feels comfortable and pleasant for flower viewing despite the lively atmosphere.

Seeing all the different plum blossoms here also made it easier for me afterward to tell the difference between plum blossoms and cherry blossoms.

In Atami, January isn’t just about cherry blossoms—plum blossoms are blooming too.

I walked from Kinomiya Station to Atami Plum Garden. It’s an uphill walk, but the scenery along the way is lovely, with ocean views and cherry blossoms to enjoy as well.

At the entrance, the red and white plum blossoms were interwoven like scattered stars. The plum blossoms in the garden weren’t in full bloom yet when I visited, but the elegant landscaping added plenty to appreciate.

The scenery in the plum garden is perfect for photos, especially when the plum blossoms are in full bloom.
