Perry Road
Perry Road in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a historic path with a stone-paved walkway running along the Hiraname River. Known as the route Commodore Perry marched along to reach Ryosenji Temple in 1854, it still preserves the atmosphere of the old port town, once said to welcome 3,000 ships, with buildings made of Izu stone, namako walls, and rows of willow trees.
A great place for a slow walk while taking photos along the way. The area isn’t big, but the atmosphere is really pleasant, with a slightly international feel. There are also some cute little shops and cafes along the street.
It’s an easy, relaxing walk that doesn’t feel tiring at all. Visiting on a nice day makes it even better, and it’s a perfect spot to add after seeing nearby attractions for a laid-back stroll. -
Hamanako Garden Park
Hamanako Garden Park is an urban park built on the site of the 2004 Hamanako Flower Expo. Located on a peninsula jutting into Lake Hamana, it features a beautiful location surrounded by the lake and rich nature.
The lakeside paths are really comfortable, perfect for walking or jogging. There are also plenty of rest spots along the way where you can take a break and enjoy the view.
