Aside from the hot springs, there are plenty of attractions worth visiting in the Unzen Onsen area. If you have enough time, spending 2-3 days here lets you really explore and get to know the local culture and history.

Sumibi Yakiniku Gyuren
Located in Tōkaichi Higashi, Miyoshi City, Sumibi Yakiniku Gyuren (Gankoya) is a specialty hub for kuroge wagyu beef, with the motto: “Kuroge wagyu must be grilled over charcoal.” The restaurant serves three premium Hiroshima beef brands-Hiroshima-gyu, Jinseki-gyu, and Hiba-gyu. The owner personally visits cattle auctions every month to purchase whole cattle, ensuring quality and authenticity with grading certificates. Only Hiroshima-raised female cattle, aged 28-30 months and graded A4 or higher, are selected, reflecting the restaurant’s uncompromising commitment to quality.
The meat quality is really good, with just the right amount of marbling. Grilling it brings out a rich aroma, and the charcoal flavor is a big plus. There are plenty of side dishes and sauces, so it doesn't get boring. The atmosphere is cozy and not too noisy, making it great for dinners with friends or date nights. Prices are moderate, and overall, it's a yakiniku place I'd definitely visit again.

Inuyama Castle
The Inuyama Castle keep is one of five deemed national treasures in Japan. It’s especially famous for remaining today as the oldest watchtower-style keep in Japan. It’s said it was built in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, the father of Oda Nobunaga.
Besides the castle tower and walls, there are plenty of other attractions around Inuyama Castle, like the old streets of the castle town, historic buildings, gardens, and museums. You can stroll around, soak up the rich historical atmosphere, and enjoy beautiful scenery and cultural sights.

Kiyosu Castle
In 1405, the Shugo (governor) of Owari (current Aichi prefecture), Yoshishige Shiba, dominated this castle as an annex of Shimotsu Castle.
Inside the castle, you'll find a wealth of historical artifacts and cultural treasures on display, showcasing life and the arts from the Sengoku and Edo periods.
