Have you heard of Edo Kiriko before? If not, you’re about to! Edo Kiriko is a traditional glass cutting technique that was founded in 1834 in the city of Edo (old Tokyo). The craft’s awe-inducing intricacy and beauty earned it recognition as a Traditional Craft Industry by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 1985.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to KIMOTO GLASSWARE, a company dedicated to keeping the Edo Kiriko art form alive. Their unique glassware designs that bring tradition and innovation together are so exquisite we simply had to check out their new shop and showroom.

Aside from the typical patterns, you’ll even find intricate designs featuring dragons, tigers, and arowanas.

Did you know that the shape of a glass can drastically change the taste and aroma of the alcoholic beverage it holds? When you take a sip from a glass with a wide mouth, the drink's aroma is able to expand up through your nose, enhancing its flavour. The same brand of sake will taste and smell different depending on the glass you drink it from. How cool is that!

What’s more, you can even taste Japanese sake at the shop and showroom in various glasses to see which one you like best, then you can buy that glass and bring it home with you. They also sell beer glasses if that’s more your thing.

These glasses made from recycled wine bottles are also extremely popular!

Why not give one of these glasses a try?
