Daisen (Tottori Prefecture)

The highest peak in the Chugoku District with marvelous scenery all year round.

Last update :

At 1709m above sea level, this is the highest peak of a polygenetic volcano in the Chugoku District. Selected into Japan’s 100 great Mountains and Japan’s 100 Scenic Places, it is the symbol of Tottori and is designated as the Daisen Oki National Park, which includes the surrounding Hiruzen Area, Oki Island, Shimane Peninsula, and Mt. Sanbe Area.

Seen from Yonago City on the west, Daisen is in a cone shape with the bottom spreading out, which earned the nickname of Hoki Fuji. From Daisen Town, you see the north wall in a screen shape created by Japan’s largest lava dome. From Kofu Town, the jagged south wall. Each direction gives a different view of Mt. Daisen.

The largest beech forest in western Japan covers the area between 800 m to 1300 m above sea level, where people come to trek or climb during a green season. The fall colors and snowscape are divine and selected into the best 3 in the ranking of famous peaks in Japan.

The Daisen area is known for its spectacular stars. You can enjoy Mt. Daisen and starry night in guided tours or picture-taking tours.
