Last update :

The remains of "Kappo Matsushita," a Japanese cuisine restaurant
established in the Taisho Era (1912-1926), still remain in Senshu Park. Matsushita's beautiful wooden Japanese-style architecture was used as a base for introducing Akita culture, which is in decline.

The Akita Maiko Theater, where visitors can meet Akita Maiko, is the most popular among tourists, with a large hall that can be used as a cultural space, a terrace cafe "Saryo," and a bar "Shubo" where visitors can enjoy sake tasting from Akita. Akita maiko dance, tea ceremony, and ozashiki (maiko entertainment) experiences are held twice a day every Saturday. The lunchtime and early afternoon sessions differ in content, and one person can participate. The early afternoon session can be attended without a reservation for the day fee of 2,200 yen. Also, with advance reservations, you can experience performances on days other than Saturdays and a town walking plan with an Akita maiko.

In the old days, nearly 200 geishas added a touch of glamor to the bustling atmosphere of Kawabata, Akita's downtown area. The Akita Maiko Theater brings back to life the glamorous atmosphere of that era.
