A shop in front of JR Akita Station serves a number of Akita’s good food such as the local cuisine, Kiritanpo Nabe.
Tanpo is the mashed rice wrapped around a stick of Akita cedar and roasted, which began in Edo Period. It is cooked in a pot with vegetables, mushrooms, chicken, etc. and has been a staple food in festivities and gatherings in countryside. This Kiritanpo Nabe is on the main menu at the restaurant. Besides regular soy sauce flavor, miso flavor is also served, which is said to be eaten by hunters.
Akita dishes made with Hinai Chicken, Japanese sandfish, etc., Inaniwa udon noodles, the origin of Yokote fried noodles, Jintani fried noodles, and other local gourmet foods besides Kiritanpo have a great variety. An array of local drinks come from all 36 Japanese sake breweries in the prefecture.
On Sundays and holidays, they serve lunch as well. Kiritanpo Nabe and Shottsuru Nabe are available in a set meal or a course.
