Aburatsu Shopping districts

A model case for shopping district revitalization!

Last update :

Aburatsu Shopping Street used to be the largest shopping street in southern Miyazaki Prefecture, but it has recently declined as the number of pedestrians declined. However, a full-scale revitalization effort began in 2013, and the town, which had been a shuttered street, has made a spectacular comeback. In 2016, it was selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry as one of the "HABATAKU Shopping Districts 30".

Newly created spots such as "ABURATSU COFFEE," which is a renovated version of a beloved local coffee shop, "ABURATSU SHOKUDO," which serves Japanese, Chinese, teppanyaki, and other dishes, and "ABURATSU GARDEN" have enlivened the shopping district. In addition, new types of businesses, such as IT ventures, have been attracted to the area, creating a new kind of liveliness.

The Obi Domain in the early Edo period used the Horikawa Canal to transport Obi cedar, valuable material for shipbuilding. The red brick warehouses that have remained from the Taisho period are also historical sites in the Aburatsu district.
