Heiwadai Park
Spend a full day exploring history and nature.
One of Miyazaki Prefecture's leading urban parks, Heiwadai Park is located on a hill in Miyazaki City. Surrounded by abundant nature, the park is dotted with sites offering glimpses into history and culture and is a popular place for locals to relax. Cherry blossoms brighten the park in spring, while colorful foliage appears in fall, offering seasonal scenery throughout the year.
The park's symbol is the approximately 37-meter-tall Peace Tower. Built in 1940, the monument is also known as the starting point of the domestic torch relay for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The area around the tower and the observation deck offer sweeping views of the city and the Hyuga Sea.
Another highlight is Haniwa Garden. Around 400 replicas of haniwa clay figures and earthenware are displayed in a lush forest, creating a distinctive atmosphere reminiscent of ancient times. The figures depict people, animals, houses, and more, and visitors can stroll through the garden while admiring their different expressions.
The park also has walking trails, an athletic playground, sports fields, and a restaurant, making it a place where children and adults can spend the entire day.
