Operated by JR Hotels, “Wanoi” is a hotel brand that renovates classic, and historical houses as hotels. The Kakunodate hotel used to be 3 storehouses that were owned by the Nishinomiya clan, descendents of Satake Honke the Akita warlord. Visitors can stay in luxury in these historic buildings.

After checking in at “Hotel Folkloro Kakunodate” next to Kakunodate station, visitors move to their appointed storehouses. They can stay at either the Nishinomiyake Bushigura (Samurai storehouse) located in Tamachi BukeYashiki Dori (Tamachi Samurai Residence Street), the Gakkogura (Pickle storehouse) and Tanmonogura (fabric storehouse) also located in Bukeyashiki Dori. The Bushigura displays katana swords, armor, and other warrior tools. The Gakkogura used to store pickles and displays pickle-related tools t. The Tanmonogura displays kimono fabric and tools. Each hotel is decorated with furniture that reflects its history.

Each storehouse has two floors, the first floor being the living room with a Irori Japanese fireplace, and the second floor being a spacious bedroom. Couples can have a relaxing time, while friends can gather for a fun time. Visitors are sure to have a special time as if they have gone back in time to the town of Kakunodate during the Edo period.
