Shima Kanko Hotel The Classic

Shima Kanko Hotel The Classic is located on Kashiko Island, the largest island in Ago Bay in Mie Prefecture. The hotel has a fantastic view of 60 islands in various sizes across Ago Bay. This classic hotel from the 1950’s has served many Royal families. One of their prominent guests is the novelist Toyoko Yamasaki (author of The White Great Tower and The Grand Family) who stayed in the hotel while writing.

The roof top observatory offers a beautiful view of Ago Bay and its dramatic coastal inlet. The guestrooms are quiet and comfortable and arranged in a chic modern classic style. Togo Murano, an architect from the Showa Era was responsible for all interiors, even the lights and furniture, for the suite rooms where global leaders stayed during the Ise-Shima Summit.

The restaurant La Mar The Classic incorporates seafood from Ise-Shima and serves the hotel’s signature French cuisine, including abalone stake, creamy lobster soup, and American lobster sauce. The dinner inspired by the menu for the Ise-Shima Summit is also available.

The hotel has The Classic building and The Bay Suites Building. The large garden connecting these two buildings provides a perfect place to stroll around.
