Karii Honpo Mojiko Retro store

It is a famous grilled curry restaurant that invented the standard cheese topping.

Last update :

This restaurant specializing in yaki curry stands in Mojiko, a popular tourist spot located at the northernmost tip of Kyushu. Yaki Curry is a local dish originating from Mojiko where curry is poured over rice, topped with cheese and eggs, and baked in the oven. The cheese topping, which has now become commonplace, began when the owner, Matsui san, covered the egg yolk with cheese to prevent it from bursting.

The only menu item offered at Mojiko Retro restaurant is grilled curry. It is characterized by the deep flavor of a combination of slow-fried brown roux and homemade bouillon. The signature dish is the "old-fashioned yaki curry" from the 1950s. It is made with Japanese black beef from Kyushu and accented with cubes of processed cheese. Other items on the menu include seafood, vegetables, and other standard items, as well as winter-only varieties such as oysters and bananas. The beef is baked in a custom-built oven at 320 degrees Celsius, and looks great.
