Kamui Kotan

"Kamui Kotan" means "village of the gods" in the Ainu language. It's a sacred land filled with the severity and mystique of nature, located in the Ishikari River gorge.

The peculiar rocks and caverns, formed over a long period of time, feature in Ainu legends, exuding a majestic mystique. The gorge, adorned by spring cherry blossoms, lush summer greenery, autumn leaves, and winter snow, captivates people with its powerful beauty throughout the year.

Spanning the gorge is the "Kamui Bridge", a suspension bridge that offers thrilling views of the raging currents below. A railway used to run through here. While it's now decommissioned, the restored "Kamui Kotan Station" building remains. Additionally, three steam locomotives are on display, attracting railway enthusiasts and fans of abandoned railways. While you can't enter the locomotives, you can take photos up close, offering a sense of nostalgic romance.
