Kiyomizu Junsei Okabeya is ideally located along the bustling approach to Kyoto’s iconic Kiyomizu-dera Temple, famous for its specialty, Yudofu (tofu hot-pot). Designed in the style of a traditional Kyoto townhouse, the restaurant offers spacious, barrier-free seating areas as well as an on-site gift shop. Particularly appealing is the view from its upper terrace, accessible via external stairs, overlooking the adjacent Goryukaku, a nationally registered tangible cultural property, and its picturesque fountain.
The restaurant specializes in tofu dishes, especially its renowned Yudofu, where warming brings out the tofu’s natural sweetness, complemented perfectly by a special dipping sauce. Another highlight is freshly prepared Yuba (tofu skin)—delicately lifted from gently heated soy milk by diners themselves. This enjoyable hands-on experience provides not only a delightful texture and subtle sweetness but also a memorable travel moment.
Both Yudofu and Yuba dishes are available as set courses. Guests can also opt for combination sets featuring either Yudofu or Yuba along with an assortment of traditional Kyoto side dishes (Obanzai). Additionally, various à la carte dishes are available to suit every dining occasion.
