Shijo Kawaramachi Onsen Sora Niwa Terrace Kyoto Bettei is a soothing retreat built around the concept of a “sky-high onsen,” offering sweeping aerial views of the Kamo River and the Higashiyama mountains.

All 32 guest rooms feature private open-air baths fed by the property’s own hot spring source. Designed in a refined Japanese-modern style, the rooms provide a sense of tranquility and exclusivity that feels far removed from the bustle of the city below. With the exception of the first- and second-floor rooms, accommodations look out over the Higashiyama range, creating an open and airy stay. The Kamo River Corner Twin offers a spacious 48.9 m² layout, highlighted by naguri wooden flooring crafted with traditional techniques, and benefits from abundant natural light unique to its corner location.

On the 9th floor, the public baths Yasaka no Yu and Niwa no Yu feature a variety of bathing styles, including standing baths and silky jacuzzis, where guests can enjoy the “heat-retaining” hot spring waters known for their warming and skin-beautifying effects. The rooftop Sora Niwa Terrace invites guests to soak their feet in a footbath while taking in panoramic views of the Kamo River, Minamiza Theatre, and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Hospitality changes with the time of day-coffee in the morning and a relaxed bar atmosphere at night.

At the in-house Kyoto kaiseki restaurant Higashiyama, seasonal Kyoto vegetables and carefully selected ingredients from across Japan are transformed into elegant dishes, offering a dining experience that engages all five senses and reflects the changing seasons of Kyoto.
