Moegi House
A charming retro Western-style house, loved for its vivid colors and cheerful appearance.
This Western-style residence was built in 1903 as the home of Hunter Sharp, who served as the American consul general. True to its name, the house stands out with its vivid light-green exterior that immediately catches the eye. The two-story wooden structure features weatherboard siding, and its light, colonial-style design has a storybook-like charm. Asymmetrical bay windows project from either side, with a brick chimney rising at the center.
While the overall design is based on the Baroque style, the interior is enriched with luxurious details throughout, including a staircase adorned with arabesque-style patterns and a stately mantelpiece. Highlights on the first floor include a restored open veranda and a spacious entrance hall. Public rooms such as the parlor and dining room, used for receiving guests, are arranged on the left side of the first floor, while the second floor houses more private spaces such as bedrooms, a children’s room, and a dressing room. From the open veranda on the second floor, visitors can enjoy sweeping views over the city of Kobe.
