Tateyama Highland Bus

The Tateyama Highland Bus operates between Bijodaira and Murodo, two stations on the popular mountainous sightseeing route, the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. This bus journey covers approximately 23 km from Bijodaira to Murodo, which sits at an elevation of 2,450 m, and takes about 50 minutes. The route is a part of the grand Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, which spans a total length of 37.2 km and has a maximum elevation difference of 1,975 m, connecting the peaks of the Northern Alps, many of which are over 3,000 m high.

During the bus ride, passengers can enjoy majestic mountainous landscapes through the windows, including views of Tateyama cedar trees, Shomyo Falls, and the Midagahara plateau. From mid-April, when the route typically opens for the season, until late June, visitors can also witness the "Yuki no Otani" (Snow Walls) near Murodo, which can stretch up to 500 m in length. During the "Yuki no Otani Walk" event, one lane of the road is closed to vehicles and opened exclusively for pedestrians, allowing visitors to walk alongside and admire the towering walls of snow—a highly popular tourist attraction.

As general vehicles are not allowed on the Alpine Route, visitors need to use this route bus to explore the area.
