Shiroyamakan
A long-established inn founded in the Meiji era, where guests can relax with luxurious views, cuisine rich in the blessings of nature, and warm, heartfelt hospitality.
A long-established inn founded in the late Meiji period, located near the gassho-zukuri village of Shirakawa-go. Housed in a building designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, the inn is known for its warm, family-run hospitality. In April 2023, parts of the interior were renovated while preserving the historic exterior.
The inn accepts only four parties per day. In addition to two traditional Japanese-style rooms facing the garden, the 2023 renovation converted four tatami rooms into two twin Western-style rooms with private toilets and washbasins. None of the rooms are equipped with unnecessary amenities such as televisions, allowing guests to unwind and enjoy peaceful moments while taking in the natural scenery outside the windows. There are two baths made of Kiso cypress, filled with natural spring water, and each can be reserved for private use by room.
Meals are served in a dining area with beautiful views and feature seasonal ingredients nurtured by the rich natural environment of Shirakawa-go, such as mountain vegetables and river fish. Dishes that highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients pair exceptionally well with alcohol, and guests can also enjoy thoughtful pairings with natural wines, local sake, and craft beer.
