The viewpoint is a popular spot to overlook the village of Ogimachi in Shirakawa, Gifu Prefecture, known by the name "Shirakawa-go," from an elevated position. Ogimachi Castle was a small mountain castle built atop a 60-meter hill with dimensions of approximately 60 meters east-west and 50 meters north-south; now, only remnants like earthworks remain.

The nostalgic landscape of the Ogimachi village, sprinkled with thatched gassho-zukuri houses amidst a tranquil rural scene, was inscribed as a World Heritage site in 1995. The thatched roofs of gassho-zukuri, symbolizing Japan's rural landscape, embody the wisdom and ingenuity of our ancestors, designed to withstand the harsh winters and heavy snowfall. These exceptional homes that supported the lives of the villagers are not only a marvel up close but also stir deep emotions when viewed from the high vantage point.

Each season adds its touch to the view from the observatory: spring brings delicate shades of cherry blossom pink; summer is wrapped in refreshing greens; and winter presents a stunning white snowscape. The beautiful scenes from the observatory, changing with the seasons, leave an indelible impression on the heart. From Ogimachi village, a paid shuttle bus runs to the Ogimachi Castle Ruins Observatory. It's also a relatively gentle 30-minute hike up the mountain trail on foot. Extend your visit to enjoy the breathtaking view from the hilltop.
