AOAO SAPPORO
Live exhibits and digital art displays at this urban aquarium.
Doors opened on July 2023 over at AOAO SAPPORO, the urban aquarium destination themed for "Wonders of Life: Seeing the Unseen”. The space is divided into three distinct zones, each with its own underwater world of hybrid-media areas that ponder the link between humans and water via live animal exhibits, backstage tours and immersive digital art.
Many flock to this aquarium for the PENGUINS exhibit in the 6th floor COMMONS area for a chance to see the full dynamo of Northern Rockhopper penguins, a specific flippers friend known for hopping energetically on two feet. See the penguins up close as they stand on the hexagonal blocks that form their rocky habitat designed for easy rearrangement. Other must-see corners include the Plankton Room, where moon jellyfish gently drift, and the Green Room, home to the world's smallest Fairy penguins.
For a bonus bite, be sure to swing by Shirokuma Bakery &, a spot with special menu items that match current event programming and Museum Marché, the spot for all-original souvenirs and merchandise.
