Tanuki Koji Shopping Street, with over 140 years of history is one of Hokkaido’s oldest shopping streets. It’s located in the center of Sapporo, stretching 900 meters from east to west with some 200 different shops. It has an arcade-style covered roofing, meaning you can enjoy shopping, dining, or an easy stroll no matter what the weather.

Here you’ll find heaps of retro vibes due to all the veteran merchants, handcrafts and souvenir shops. There’s also a number of food spots serving up Hokkaido foodie favorites including authentic Sapporo beer and grilled lamb dishes.

On 2nd street there’s a hidden tourist spot, where you’ll find Tanuki Koji Lion, one of Hokkaido’s oldest beer halls with over 100 years of history. From inside the 2nd floor windows there’s even Baron Beer with a beer mug in his hand, smiling as the people pass by below.
