Just a short walk from JR Kyoto Station, Umekoji Park offers a rare chance to enjoy greenery and open space in the city center. Opened in 1995 on the former Umekoji freight station site, the 13.7-hectare park continues to evolve as a multifunctional space featuring lawns, gardens, waterways, and playgrounds.
At the heart of the park, the Suzaku Dream Square invites children to play with a 14-meter roller slide, a massive jungle gym, and more. Families spread out picnics on the wide lawn, while in summer children splash happily in the artificial stream at the Riverside Playground.
On weekends and holidays, a retro streetcar runs leisurely through the park, a nostalgic experience enjoyed by both children and visitors.
