Bashokan is in Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture, a cultural town known for preserving its historic landscape. The restaurant is known as the original home of moridashi-style wanko soba. One of its distinctive features is being able to enjoy wanko soba at a relaxed pace with a colorful variety of condiments.

At Bashokan, wanko soba is not served by an attendant. Instead, the equivalent of two portions of zaru soba is divided into 24 small bowls and served that way. It is also well regarded for its deep flavor. Another appealing point is that the bowls used are Hidehira-nuri lacquerware. You can enjoy wanko soba visually as well. In addition, the menu includes dishes made with local ingredients, offering a dining experience unique to Hiraizumi.

The interior features a calm Japanese-style setting. In addition to table seating, tatami floor seating is also available. Highly regarded by both locals and tourists, this well-established restaurant preserves history and tradition. The surrounding area is also home to sightseeing spots registered as the World Heritage site “Hiraizumi - Temples, Gardens and Archaeological Sites Representing the Buddhist Pure Land.” It is an easy place to stop by while sightseeing.
