Glass Beach
A beach along Omura Bay where colorful recycled glass sparkles in the sun.
Located next to the lush Morizono Park along Omura Bay, Glass Beach is an artificial shallow shore created by recycling discarded glass bottles. Developed in 2016 to help improve the water quality of Omura Bay, the entire beach is covered with glass pieces in a variety of colors, including clear, brown, blue, and green. Sparkling in the sunlight like jewels, it catches the eye of visitors.
It was originally created to improve the water quality of Omura Bay by providing an environment where plankton-eating clams could live. At the same time, the sparkling beach scenery gained attention on social media and has become a popular spot.
The edges of the glass pieces have been rounded, but for safety, it is best to avoid walking on the beach barefoot.
The view across Omura Bay toward Nagasaki Airport beyond the beach is also popular as a photogenic spot. Another appeal is how the reflected light changes with the season and time of day, giving the beach different looks. It is a great place to enjoy the shimmering scenery of the beach.
