Located at the northernmost tip of Tsushima City in Nagasaki Prefecture, this observatory stands in Kamiagata Town, a border-area town just 49.5 km from South Korea. On days with especially clear air, you can see the streets of South Korea and even its night views with the naked eye. Looking out at the city stretching across the sea is a special experience that truly makes you aware of the border.

The observatory’s architectural design incorporates motifs inspired by a multipurpose facility in Seoul’s Pagoda Park, while the gate is modeled after the entrance gate of the Korea International Passenger Terminal. These exotic design elements symbolize the town’s identity as a border town. From the observation deck, you can enjoy the changing scenery of the strait depending on the time of day and the weather. In the daytime, the blue sea and sky spread out before you, at sunset the sinking sun colors the horizon, and at night the lights of Busan and fishing boats create a dreamlike scene.

Parking and restrooms are available in and around the facility. It is one of Tsushima’s signature sightseeing spots, where you can experience both scenery unique to a border island and the atmosphere of a different culture.
