Shonai Ryokuchi Park
One of the city's largest parks, packed with attractions.
This expansive public park was created on the Otai retarding basin of the Shonai River, a first-class river that flows through Nagoya. The spacious grounds offer sports facilities such as tennis courts, a track and field stadium, and gateball courts, along with many attractions for both adults and children, including the 3.5-hectare Lawn Plaza, one of the largest in the city, and the Wanpaku Plaza with its wide variety of playground equipment.
Free rental bicycles are also available, making them handy for getting around the large park. Riding along the cycling course while enjoying seasonal flowers and plants is also recommended. The park is also known for its rose garden and iris garden.
At Shonai Ryokuchi Green Plaza, a hub for fitness and promoting greenery, a variety of events are held, including workshops on flowers and greenery and parent-child craft classes. Don't miss the greenhouse, where you can see more than 100 kinds of plants, and the Wild Bird Forest, planted mainly with acorn-bearing and other fruiting trees.
