Wakura Onsen

Overlooking Nanao Bay in the central part of the Noto Peninsula, Wakura Onsen boasts a 1,200-year history. It is the only seaside hot spring in the Hokuriku region, and its mineral-rich, salty waters are renowned for their strong antibacterial, moisturizing, and skin-beautifying benefits.

At Wakura Onsen Soyu, a public bathhouse with indoor and open-air baths and a distinctly Japanese atmosphere, you can enjoy water straight from the source at a reasonable price. At Yumoto no Hiroba, marked by a statue of a white heron, you can also make hot spring eggs using the naturally flowing spring water. Another highlight is the chance to savor excellent local ingredients, including seasonal fresh seafood such as Noto pufferfish and Kano crab, nourishing Noto vegetables, and finely marbled Noto beef.

With hot spring inns in a wide range of styles, Wakura Onsen is a popular base for exploring not only the area itself but also nearby destinations such as Nanao and Notojima. The Noto Peninsula Earthquake that struck in January 2024 caused severe damage to the hot spring district as well. Today, more businesses are reopening after overcoming many challenges, and the area is gradually regaining its lively atmosphere.
