“Naragejuku Tanno Konnyaku: Tanno Konnyaku Bansho” was founded in 1959 in the Ushu Kaido, Naragejuku area of Kaminoyama, Yamagata. This is a dining spot where you can enjoy konnyaku made with a delicate sense of Yamagata’s changing seasons. They serve high-quality konnyaku—springy, pleasantly sticky, and satisfyingly chewy—refined into kaiseki cuisine.

The kaiseki menu at “Naragejuku Tanno Konnyaku: Tanno Konnyaku Bansho” comes in five main types. Among them, the “San Kaiseki Cuisine,” which includes an aperitif and seasonal appetizers, is especially popular. Served at the end of the kaiseki, “konnyaku soba” offers a smooth, slippery texture with a pleasantly bouncy bite. Ordering the private-room “Konnyaku Kaiseki Masuei” requires an advance reservation.

Both tatami-floor seating and table seating are available, and you can choose based on your preference. The area around the restaurant still retains the feel of a post town. Along with the historic streetscape, it’s a spot where you can experience the food culture unique to Ushu Kaido, Naragejuku.
