Umegae Mochi Yasutake Main Store
A long-established shop selling Umegae Mochi, a famous rice cake sweet from Dazaifu.
This Japanese confectionery shop stands along the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Said to have been founded around 1948, it has long been cherished by locals.
Its specialty, Umegae Mochi, is grilled one by one at the storefront and served fresh off the griddle. Umegae Mochi is a sweet made by wrapping sweet red bean paste in a thin mochi dough and grilling both sides on an iron plate, and it is well known as a Dazaifu specialty. It is perfect to enjoy freshly made, and also makes a great keepsake from your visit or a souvenir.
Yasutake’s Umegae Mochi is made with carefully selected, high-quality Tokachi azuki beans, with a chewy inside and a lightly crisp exterior as part of the shop’s commitment to quality. The fragrant mochi skin and moderately sweet chunky red bean paste create an elegant flavor you will never tire of. Also not to be missed are the Umegae Mochi with ancient rice, sold only on the 17th of each month, and the Umegae Mochi with mugwort, sold only on the 25th of each month. On those sales days, they are offered in limited-edition packaging and paper bags, and many customers come to buy them as a special souvenir.
