Starbucks Coffee Dazaifu Tenmangu Omotesando Store opened in 2011, right next to the torii gate facing the Omotesando Avenue of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
This is one of the "Regional Landmark Stores," originally designed by Starbucks in iconic locations throughout Japan to promote the attractive local culture to the rest of the world.

The distinctive store, which incorporates a wooden structure inside and out, was designed by Mr. Kengo Kuma, the architect who designed the "New National Stadium" etc..
The approximately 2,000 cypress trees assembled diagonally not only support the building, but also evoke the image of light and wind flowing through the building.
Since its opening, this space, which blends the essence of tradition and modernity in a way not seen in other Starbucks stores, has been attracting attention both in Japan and abroad.

A small garden and terrace seating are set in front of the store, and a miniature garden is set up in the back, allowing customers to feel connected to nature while still inside the store.

Highlights

  • There are 28 Starbucks Regional Landmark Stores in Japan. (as of June 2022)
  • The store won the Good Design Award in 2012.

  • In the garden at the back of the store, there is a plum tree, the symbol of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
