Engetsu Island

A landmark of the Nanki-Shirahama area, familiar as the subject of paintings, photographs, and postage stamps. The official name is “Takashima” but it’s commonly called “Engetsu-jima” because of the sea cave (hole) near the center of the island.

What impressed me was the naturally formed circular sea cave in the center of the island, set against the endless ocean. The scenery was very distinctive. Especially around sunset, the sun slowly shone through the opening, creating a beautiful silhouette that really made me want to stop, admire it, and take photos. The sea breeze felt very pleasant, and the whole atmosphere was relaxing and romantic.

Nemuro Hanamaru JR Tower Stellar Place

This popular conveyor belt sushi chain originated in Nemuro, the easternmost part of Hokkaido, and its JR Tower Stellar Place location is conveniently connected to JR Sapporo Station.

Having conveyor belt sushi at Nemuro Hanamaru in Sapporo really left a deep impression on me! The restaurant had a lively atmosphere and a huge selection of sushi. The fresh Hokkaido seafood in particular tasted sweet and full of ocean flavor. Every piece looked so tempting that I couldn't stop ordering. I especially loved the thick slices of fish and how fresh they tasted. It was very different from the conveyor belt sushi I've had in Taiwan. I felt very satisfied to try this popular local sushi spot during my trip to Hokkaido, and it added an unforgettable food memory to my time in Sapporo!

Otaru Sakaimachi Dori Shopping Street

Located just one street away from the main thoroughfare facing the Otaru Canal, Sakaimachi-dori flourished during the Meiji and early Showa periods, becoming Otaru's main street.

Otaru Sakaimachi Dori Shopping Street is really fun to explore, and you can feel Otaru's distinctive charm as you walk along the street. There are lots of specialty dessert shops, souvenir stores, and cute little shops along the way, and each one makes you want to go inside and take a look. Besides trying Hokkaido food, I also bought some souvenirs I liked. My favorite part was browsing the shops while enjoying the retro streetscape. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable.

Yufuin Floral Village

A compact theme park that recreates the streetscapes of the Cotswolds region in the UK, known as a filming location for the movie “Harry Potter,” with a magical, fairytale-like atmosphere that feels like you’ve stepped into a storybook. Inside the park, beautiful plants bloom throughout the seasons, and paths lined with stone cottages continue on, with plenty of photo spots scattered throughout.

When I arrived at Yufuin Floral Village, I was immediately drawn to the fairytale-like streetscape. It felt as though I had stepped into a dreamy little village in a storybook. The cute European-style buildings are paired with all kinds of unique little shops, each with its own small surprises, making you want to take your time browsing and keep taking photos. The atmosphere along the streets is relaxed and comfortable, and it fits well with the charm of the Yufuin hot spring town. After visiting in person, I felt that it's not only fun to explore but also a great place to take memorable photos. It left me with a cute and unforgettable travel memory.

Sandanbeki Rock Cliff

Sandanbeki is a 2-km long craggy rock cliff that towers 50 meters above the sea. In the past, fishermen would call this place “midan”, a lookout point for passing ships and schools of fish, but the point has gradually become known as “Sandanbeki” over time. The rockface is pummeled by the Kuroshio Current, creating for a view that’s bound to impress you.

When I arrived at Sandanbeki in Wakayama, I was immediately drawn to the spectacular coastal scenery. With towering cliffs and the endless blue ocean, standing nearby and listening to the waves crash against the rocks felt truly powerful.

As I walked around the observation deck and enjoyed the scenery, I could feel the sea breeze blowing against my face, and it made me feel completely relaxed. Looking down from above especially made me appreciate the power of nature.

Visiting Sandanbeki in person this time wasn't just about enjoying the beautiful scenery; it also left me with a lasting travel memory. Compared with the photos, the spectacular view in person was truly even more impressive!
