Chichibugahama Beach
A breathtaking scenic spot known as Japan’s “Uyuni Salt Flats.”
A shallow long beach stretching Approx. 1 km, with the tide receding as much as Approx. 500 m at low tide. This everyday waterside spot, visited by local beachgoers every summer, became a hot topic on social media as a scenic destination around 2017 after a single photo drew attention. It has now grown so popular that many visitors come from Japan and abroad.
The stunning view that keeps drawing people in is the reflective scenery that appears at dusk during low tide, resembling Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flats in South America. This almost miraculous sight, where the sky is reflected on the sea, is created by the shallow shoreline, with the sea on one side and mountains on the other three, together with “Seto no Yuunagi,” a Seto Inland Sea phenomenon in which the wind dies down at dusk. Beautiful photos using the reflection on the calm water helped spread the name of Chichibugahama Beach around the world.
It is also known as a famous sunset spot and was selected as one of the 100 Best Sunsets in Japan. The magnificent evening view is another highlight, with the vast sky turning crimson and gradually fading into twilight in a mesmerizing gradient.
