Kikugahama Beach stretches for Approx. 1 km east to west along the Sea of Japan in northern Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is known for its beautiful scenery, with white sand and green pine groves lining the shore, and the view was even praised in poems as “Abu no Matsubara.” It is also mentioned in Nihon Meishoki, a guide introducing famous shrines, temples, and scenic spots around Japan, suggesting that it has long been loved as a place of natural beauty. Located within Kita-Nagato Kaigan Quasi-National Park, it draws many swimmers in summer. The water is highly clear and has also been selected as one of the Ministry of the Environment’s 100 Best Swimming Beaches.

From the beach, you can see Shizukiyama, where Hagi Castle once stood, as well as the offshore islands known as the Hagi Rokuto and Mount Kasayama. The white sand is soft, making it a great place for a stroll while taking in the beautiful scenery. It is also popular as a sunset spot, and many people visit to watch the sky change color moment by moment.

Another appeal is its proximity to the castle town area, making it easy to combine swimming or a walk along the shore with visits to nearby historic sites.
