Sanso Tensui is a lodging facility in Sakuradake, Amagase-machi, Hita City, Oita Prefecture. This hot spring ryokan stands in the mountains of Amagase Onsen, one of Japan’s leading hot spring areas. Open-air baths are scattered throughout the grounds. One of its main draws is soaking while looking out at a waterfall cascading through deep green forest.

The open-air bath “Takikan-an” is the inn’s signature feature. It offers a sweeping view of Sakura Falls, a waterfall with a drop of Approx. 20 m. The bath uses free-flowing spring water directly from the source of Amagase Onsen. It is known for its faint sulfur scent. In addition to Takikan-an, the inn also has five types of private baths along the mountain stream. You can enjoy the natural scenery while bathing. There are also various other bathing facilities, including indoor baths and a footbath.

Guest rooms also include options with open-air baths. They are designed with an emphasis on traditional Japanese style and scenic views. Dinner features kaiseki cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from Oita Prefecture. You can savor local specialties such as shiitake mushrooms and Bungo beef, a local brand of wagyu, in the comfort of your room. Surrounded by the sound of the waterfall and the stillness of the forest, this is an inn where you can enjoy a luxurious hot spring stay.
