A museum tracing the legacy of Shoji Ueda (1913–2000), a master of Japanese photography from Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture.

Inside, the museum houses Approx. 12,000 works created through Ueda’s lens, including his dune photographs, which are still celebrated today for their bold compositions. Part of the collection is open to the public, and special exhibitions exploring his work from a variety of perspectives are held regularly.

On the second floor, the video exhibition room screens a program introducing Ueda’s profile, career, and philosophy on a high-definition 200-inch large-screen system. Near the end, visitors can also enjoy the unique “Upside-Down Mt. Daisen,” a real-time inverted projection of the mountain.

The museum stands in a peaceful rural area surrounded by open fields, and its striking inorganic design immediately catches the eye. Designed by architect Shin Takamatsu, the building incorporates the surrounding landscape and feels like a giant work of art.

From the moment you arrive, this museum builds anticipation and invites you to fully enjoy a moving experience where photography and landscape resonate together.
