Suo-Oshima
A scenic island with spectacular views of the Seto Inland Sea’s many islands.
Suo-Oshima Town is made up of six inhabited islands and 25 uninhabited islands in the Seto Inland Sea in eastern Yamaguchi Prefecture, including the main island, Yashirojima. It is connected to Yanai City on the mainland by Oshima Bridge, making it easy to reach by car. The bridge also has a bicycle and pedestrian path, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful island-dotted scenery of the Seto Inland Sea while cycling or walking.
Suo-Oshima Town is also a sister island of Kauai in Hawaii and is sometimes called the “Hawaii of the Seto Inland Sea.” Every year from June 22 to August 31, “Aloha Biz” is held, with aloha shirts recognized as formal attire, and during the summer vacation season, the hula event “Satafura” takes place on Saturdays.
In addition to local specialties such as mikan nabe and Tachiuo no Kagami-mori, beautifully arranged cutlassfish sashimi, visitors can enjoy plenty of activities, including marine sports like SUP and sea kayaking, seaside drives, cycling, and trekking in the Setouchi Alps.
