Asahiyama Memorial Park
A scenic park surrounded by rich nature.
Established in 1970 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Sapporo, this park sits on a 137.5-meter-high hill next to Mt. Moiwa and Maruyama. It offers sweeping views from the Sapporo cityscape to the Ishikari Plain and the Sea of Japan. At night, it is known as one of Sapporo’s top night view spots and is popular with both locals and visitors. From spring to fall, the fountain is illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere together with the night view spreading out beyond it.
The park also features an observation deck, an observation plaza, terraced seating, and a picnic area, making it a great place to spend time in nature however you like. Around the grounds are the Learning Forest, filled with Japanese alder, Sakhalin spruce, and kobushi magnolia, as well as the scattered Portland Forest and Munich Forest, created to commemorate sister city partnerships.
In addition to facilities such as a rest house with a break area and Mori no Ie, which has a library corner and sells coffee, the park also has a suspension bridge, a playground area, and a kids’ plaza, making it possible for everyone from children to adults to spend a full day enjoying nature.
