Hitoyoshi Onsen

This hot spring area emerges across a wide stretch from Itsukamachi to Onsenmachi in Hitoyoshi City, with Approx. 50 spring sources distributed throughout the area.

The colorless, clear, odorless water can be broadly classified into two types: mildly alkaline simple springs and sodium bicarbonate, chloride springs, and is said to be effective for rheumatism, neuralgia, dermatitis, and women’s health concerns. The spring temperature stays at 107.6–118.4°F, and the water is known for its moist, gentle feel on the skin.

To fully enjoy a hot spring worthy of its reputation, it is recommended to stay at a ryokan or hotel along the Kuma River, or use one of the public bathhouses that offer day-use bathing.

Public bathhouses in particular are a great option, with Approx. 20 currently operating in the city. Admission fees are set at relatively reasonable prices so local residents can use them easily in daily life. Hop from one bath to another, casually enjoy a hot spring tour, and fully experience the richness of a hot spring culture deeply rooted in local life.
