Okuoikojo Station is located in the mountains of Kawanehon, Shizuoka Prefecture. This unmanned station was built to jut out into Lake Sesso, which was created by the construction of Nagashima Dam, and is known as one of the most scenic spots along the Oigawa Railway’s Southern Alps Abt Line. The view created by the red Okuoi Rainbow Bridge and the emerald-green lake has made it popular as a remote station that appears to float on the water.

The train ride from Senzu Station, the access point, to Okuoikojo Station takes about 1 hour. Along the way, travelers can experience Japan’s only Abt-system railway as it climbs steep grades and take in the grand natural scenery of the Southern Alps. Walking paths and rest areas are available around the station, and the view looking down on the station from the observation spot is especially impressive.

The scenery changes with the seasons, from fresh greenery in spring and fall foliage to star-filled skies in the clear winter air, offering a different impression with each visit. In recent years, it has become one of Okuoi’s leading attractions, drawing attention from Japan and abroad as a photogenic scenic spot.
