Kinosaki Onsen Mikiya

One of the most renowned traditional inns in Kinosaki Onsen, a hot spring town with a 1,400-year history. Founded 350 years ago, Mikiya has carried on its traditions through the centuries.

Its atmospheric three-story wooden building dates from the early Showa era. The aged beams, earthen walls, and even the creaking floors evoke the romance of travel, while modern comforts complement the refined character of a traditional Japanese inn. The guestrooms are known for their inviting blend of warm wood and Japanese ambience, with eight types varying in size and layout. Another highlight is the approximately 990-square-meter Japanese garden, offering elegant seasonal scenery throughout the year.

While touring the public bathhouses, which guests may visit as often as they wish during their stay, is highly recommended, the inn also offers relaxing indoor baths exclusively for overnight guests. Tsutsuji-no-Yu overlooks three varieties of azaleas through its windows, while Hiiragi-no-Yu features an airy, open-ceiling design. Each offers a distinct and soothing atmosphere. The baths alternate between men and women depending on the time of day, allowing guests to experience both at their leisure.

At Heihachiro, the dining room on the first floor, dishes showcasing local seafood and mountain produce are served piping hot at their best. Every dish reflects careful attention to the tableware and presentation. The menu also features premium regional ingredients, particularly Matsuba snow crab and Tajima beef.
