Kawazu Seven Waterfalls (Kawazu Nanadaru)

Kawazu Seven Waterfalls is the collective name for seven waterfalls along a stream that originates in the Amagi Mountains and flows through Kawazu, Shizuoka Prefecture. In the Kawazu area, waterfalls are called “taru,” a word from a local dialect that has been used since the Heian period and remains part of the name today.

An approximately 850-meter walking trail connects the seven waterfalls—Kama-daru, Ebi-daru, Hebi-daru, Shokei-daru, Kani-daru, Deai-daru, and Odaru—and takes about 1 hour each way, offering views of the natural scenery of the gorge. Each waterfall has a different height, shape, and flow, giving it a distinct character.

The trail also features a 46-meter suspension bridge and a bronze statue inspired by “The Izu Dancer,” a celebrated work by literary master Yasunari Kawabata. These literary landmarks add another dimension to the walk.

Kama-daru, with a drop of 22 meters, has an observation deck where visitors can experience the powerful spray up close. The scenery of the gorge and clear stream changes with the seasons, making this one of Izu’s best-known natural attractions.
