Tokyo Tower is more than just a landmark. It feels like a symbol of Tokyo’s early prosperity. Compared with the modern vibe of Tokyo Skytree, it has a bit more nostalgia and retro charm. Especially when it’s lit up at night, the atmosphere feels really warm.

Tokyo Tower has such a classic look, and it’s especially beautiful when it’s lit up at night. Even though it’s not as tall as Skytree, it feels more like Tokyo in terms of atmosphere.

You have to find the right angle for photos, or it can easily end up looking like a construction scaffold 🤭

In June 2025, we took a local bus in Japan and got off at a stop near Tokyo Tower. We walked the rest of the way and enjoyed taking in Tokyo Tower along the route.

I especially loved the second photo. Even though Tokyo Skytree was partly blocked by lush green trees, it didn’t take away from Tokyo Tower’s vibe—it actually made it feel really unique.

Compared to the modern vibe of Skytree, I actually prefer the nostalgic feel of Tokyo Tower.

Tokyo Tower looks even more stunning at night with all the gorgeous lights.

The lighting design of Tokyo Tower has both traditional meaning and festive colors. Different light displays can represent various holidays or special events. Its classic shape stands out even more at night, making it an unmissable landmark in the city.

Even though Tokyo Skytree has become more popular since it opened, Tokyo Tower is still the true symbol of Tokyo.

If you have some extra time, I recommend walking from Hamamatsucho or Daimon Station. The distance isn't bad at all, and walking lets you really appreciate how big Tokyo Tower is as you get closer.

It looks majestic during the day and beautiful at night.
